Your Deadline Isn't 2029. It's Your Renewal Month.

Everyone selling against the Data Center wind-down points at March 2029. Almost nobody does the arithmetic backwards to the date you actually have to decide by. That date is usually much sooner, and it's on your calendar already.

The Mechanism, in Atlassian's Own Words

Atlassian's billing documentation states it flatly, without commentary: “Data Center subscriptions are billed annually, based on your app plan and the number of users requiring access.” And then the part that actually matters here: “Data Center subscriptions don't auto-renew and expire at the end of your billing cycle. We'll send you a quote, 90 days before your subscription end date.” That's the mechanics for Jira Software, Jira Service Management, Confluence, Bitbucket, Bamboo, Crowd, and Marketplace apps alike.

Set that 90-day figure against the two dates Atlassian has already published — March 30, 2028 as the last day existing customers can purchase or expand, and March 28, 2029 as full expiry — and the quote window becomes the thing that actually reaches a person: a specific email, roughly a quarter before each annual cliff, that turns a distant policy into a decision someone has to make this quarter.

Nothing rolls over by default

“Don't auto-renew” quietly removes a comfort a lot of admins are running on. A missed cycle isn't a late invoice — it's an expiry. The quote has to be actioned, not just received.

Your last quote has to forecast further than usual

Whatever renewal lands closest to March 30, 2028 is the last one you can expand at all. The headcount growth you'd normally true up next cycle has to be pre-bought in that one, because there won't be another.
