Last day existing Data Center customers can buy new subscriptions, add Marketplace apps, or expand user counts. After this, no more Data Center purchases — for anyone, at any size.

How This Actually Affects You

The dates are the same for everyone. What they mean for you depends entirely on which of these three you are — and the people with the least warning are usually the ones who don't have an Atlassian account rep calling to walk them through it.

You've never bought Data Center

This one's already over. New-customer sales and trials closed March 30, 2026. If your organization didn't hold a paid Data Center subscription before that moment, buying in is off the table permanently — no exceptions, no reopening. Your only paths forward are Cloud, or a non-Atlassian platform.

You're a current Data Center customer, subscription active

You can keep renewing and even expanding user counts until March 30, 2028. After that date, no more purchases at all — your existing licenses keep running on whatever term you last bought, but every one of them goes read-only at the latest by March 28, 2029, regardless of what your contract says. There's no size threshold that changes this: a 50-seat shop and a 5,000-seat enterprise are on the identical clock.

You're a former Data Center customer — no active renewal right now

Atlassian defines “existing customer” as any organization that ever paid for a Data Center subscription before the March 30, 2026 cutoff — not organizations with a subscription currently in force. Read literally, that means a lapsed account likely still keeps purchasing rights through March 2028. Don't bank on it without confirming: reinstating a lapsed license isn't the same transaction as a normal renewal, and back charges or other conditions may apply. Ask your Atlassian contact or partner before assuming you have until 2028.

Atlassian's only named carve-out is “Extended Maintenance by Exception” for organizations with unusual migration constraints, evaluated case by case — it's not a general grace period, and it's the kind of thing you typically hear about through an account rep. Large accounts have one. Most smaller Data Center customers don't, which is exactly why this deadline is likelier to sneak up on them.

Jira and Confluence Aren't on the Same Clock as Bitbucket

“Data Center end of life” is a product-specific policy, not a blanket sunset of self-hosted Atlassian. Jira Software, Confluence, Jira Service Management, Bamboo and Crowd Data Center — plus their Marketplace apps — all sit on the exact same three dates. Bitbucket Data Center was explicitly carved out: Atlassian says it will keep supporting it through a new Bitbucket Hybrid License offering, with no end-of-life date announced as of this writing.
